Summary:In this "tragicomedy" (container), a sexton at a large church in the city, Albert, causes a scandal at a wedding, and ends up in a small village in the mountains. The villagers pressure him to be their priest (though he isn't really a priest at all) and he enjoys success in this role. But the village teacher, an atheist, is jealous and entraps and denounces Albert.
