Emphasizing material published since the first edition, ed. by Robert A. Myers (CH, Jun'91), this version repeats only about 15 percent of the entries from that edition, so would be best used along with it. Some nonmonographic material is included. Most entries cite English-language materials published worldwide. Readers must keep in mind that a bibliography with only 800 entries about a country on which so much is published will be highly selective. For example, Nigeria hosted major expansions of both Christianity and Islam, which resulted in large publishing output, especially about the former, but the chapter "Religion" includes only 20 entries on Christianity, Islam, and their relationship in Nigeria. Recommended for college and university libraries, large public libraries, and African studies programs. P. W. Wilkin; University of Pittsburgh
