520 | |a This period follows the Aterian and preceeds the Neolithic; it dates to ca. 20,000 BP-7,500 BP. The documents cover the two major epipaleolithic industries: the Iberomaurusian (20,000-8,000 BP) and the Capsian (10,000-7,000 BP), geographically distributed across Mediterranean North Africa (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia). There are 11 documents in this collection, and many evaluate whether the Capsian tradition was introduced from the Near East (Camps-Fabrer et al.) or developed from the Iberomaurusian (Lubell and Lubell, Sheppard, and Jackes). Close describes the paleoenvironment, site distribution, economy and diet, and the physical types of the population at 18,000 BP. Many documents are excavation reports: Haua Fteah (McBurney), Tamar Hat (Saxon et al.), and Columnata (Brahimi; in French, with a short abstract in English). The remaining documents are from the excavation report on the Medjez II site Camps-Fabrer et al. (in French, with short abstracts in English). | ||
