|a The eight documents that comprise the New Guinea Neolithic collection discuss sedentary agricultural societies that inhabited New Guinea and Irian Jaya from 10,000-100 B.P. The documents focus primarily on New Guinea, particularly the highland region. White and O'Connell provide a general introduction in the work, New Guinea. Bulmer reviews archaeological evidence to 1975; and White discusses the excavation of rock shelters in Ol Tumbuna. Golson and Gardner examine the relationship between agricultural developments and social differentiation. In two documents, Golson discusses the genesis and evolution of highland agriculture, with emphasis on the Kuk excavation. Sullivan, Hughes and Golson also consider agricultural developments in their study of garden terraces.
