Summary:The Huatabampo collection contains two documents, one in Spanish and one in English. The time coverage for the Huatabampo ranges from about 1800 B.P. to around Spanish contact in 470 B.P. (200 A.D. to approximately 1530 A.D.). The geographic area discussed is northern Sinaloa and southern Sonora, Mexico; the Huatabampo culture occurred on the coast of this region. Palma analyzes Huatabampo archaeological remains, particularly the ceramic and lithic industries and the production of effigy figurines. Pailes describes his archaeological work in the region, with a primary interest in the Rio Sonora culture. He discusses Huatabampo in relation to the Rio Sonora culture. Based on his evaluation of artifacts, he speculates that the Cuchujaqui phase sites he found may have been a foothill variant of the Huatabampo culture.
