Description
Summary: | First volume in this series which surveys new insights and directions emerging from research into the structural chemistry operating at the biological sites where metal ions are found. Examines a newly emergent focus of research activity-interactions of metal ions with nucleic acids. Selected papers describe important ongoing investigations in five key areas: discovery and therapeutic application of the anticancer properties of cis-dichlorodiammine platinum (II) and related metal complexes; possible modes of action of platinum anticancer agents, also uses of heavy metal complex in probing structure of nucleic acids; metals as mutagens and carcinogens; metal ion interactions with transfer RNA (the one nucleic acid having high-resolution three-dimensional crystal structures); and modes whereby metal ions may interact with constituents of nucleic acids.
