Summary:This Sourcebook is a space of reflection occasioned by the exhibition. Three extraordinary essayists - Diedrich Diederichsen, Vanessa Desclaux and Thierry Davila -- were invited to encounter the artist's mercurial practice in different contexts. They speculate on his inventive approach to temporality, to the spaces of theater, film and performance, and to the workings of memory, meaning and art historical references. Farmer himself recomposes visual and texual fragments of his exhibition, which after a month of daily transformation came to be known as Forgetting Air.
Description
Summary:Over the past decade, Canadian artist Geoffrey Farmer has developed a performative, narrative approach to installation--combining video, drawing and improvisatory sculpture. The works evolve over the course of an exhibition or transform drastically from one site to another, lending instability to the notion of what an artwork, or exhibition, might be.
