This volume by Balint, Braescu, and Kaslik (all, West Univ. of Timisoara, Romania) is a monograph on applications of regions of attraction in control theory. The first two chapters review the theory of regions of attraction for continuous and discrete systems. The material is presented in mathematical style with definitions and theorems, but many proofs are omitted. Readers will need to be familiar with mathematical control theory at the graduate level. The final three chapters describe the applications of the technique to problems in shaped crystal growth, the control of a model airplane, and Hopfield neural networks. Mathematica software is used for computational examples. This book may be of interest to readers looking for examples of the use of regions of attraction in control problems. Summing Up: Recommended.
