Anthropometric measurements of body size and composition such as height, weight, head and arm circumferences, triceps and subscapular skinfold thicknesses are used as a noninvasive method to evaluate individuals' health and nutritional status. This updated reference by Frisancho (U. Michigan) includes new data for those over 65 and those less than 2 years old, for a variety of ethnic groups. It will be useful for individuals ranging in age from two months to 90 years. Data sources include NHANES III (the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey), the Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization. Included in the six chapters are a manual of standardized anthropometric methods and measurement techniques; charts with recommended pregnancy weight gain and prenatal growth and birth weights; tables and graphs of the anthropometric indexes of children and adults; and the processes involved in the evaluation of anthropometric data. The accompanying CD with Excel spreadsheets allows for computer-assisted evaluation of nutritional anthropometry based on NHANES III, CDC, and WHO data. Summing Up: Recommended.
