This collection of stories for telling, which represents a variety of cultures and traditions, seems to stress the universality of the human experience. Many selections are little-known traditional tales; others have been created in a traditional style by Kronberg and McKissack. The authors-collectors offer both sound advice on the art of storytelling and practical suggestions to help the novice have a successful experience. That the stories are divided into four categories ("Stories for Easy Telling," "Stories That Involve the Audience," "Stories to Act Out," and "Stories for All Occasions") is indicative of the volume's user friendliness. Each tale has an obvious message, and though the authors suggest some stories be used in discussing issues like death, sharing, blended families, and personal safety, the collection avoids didacticism. A Piece of the Wind will make worthwhile contributions to any storyteller's repertoire. ~--Michael O. Tunnell
