Rarely does a book read like a good conversation. The Holistic Curriculum, now in its third edition, is the rare exception. Thirty years on from its original publication, this version offers perhaps even more timely perspectives on this enduring field. For those accustomed to framing their curricular work solely around silos of academic disciplines such as science or social studies, this book will catalyze an entirely new way of knowing within educational settings. For those who routinely link education with social contexts, spirituality, and Earth, this book will not disappoint, especially with its in-depth attention to connectedness and indigenous perspectives. Presented in two sections, this text is well organized and makes use of both interesting and relevant quotes to clearly and concisely illustrate multifaceted arguments. Chapter 5 in particular offers a historical background that is crucial for anyone new to this field. Part 2 then aims to bring holistic notions into practice, and the final chapter specifically addresses implementation and evaluation. This reviewer was left wanting even more on the discussion about the presence of the teacher, and was inspired to consider ways to bring this book to life. Summing Up: Essential. Upper-division undergraduates through faculty; professionals. --David M. Moss, University of Connecticut
