Taking as his inspiration Jonathan Swift's [cf2]Gulliver's Travels[cf1], White tells the story of an orphan named Maria who discovers a group of Lilliputians descended from those in Swift's classic and must protect them from exploitation by her governess and a conniving vicar. Full-page oil paintings as well as smaller vignettes appear throughout this charming fantasy. From HORN BOOK Fall 1999, (c) Copyright 2010.
