A six-year labor of love, Juliar's work surpasses two important Nabokov bibliographies-Dieter E. Zimmer's Vladimir Nabokov: Bibliographie des Gesamtwerks (1963) and Andrew Field's Nabokov: A Bibliography (1973). It is a comprehensive descriptive listing of Nabokov's varied literary appearances in books and serials published in Russian, French, and English, as well as translations into languages ranging from Finnish to Turkish. The core of Juliar's book lies in his thorough descriptions of 56 major Nabokov works, from his first adolescent collection of verse to the posthumously published correspondence with his sister Elena. Juliar lists the books chronologically and describes all separate editions between 1916 and 1985. He provides excellent photographs of the title page, copyright page, and dustjacket or front cover of each major item described. Other sections include Nabokov's lepidoptera papers, periodical essays and stories, translations (Nabokov was the first to translate Alice in Wonderland into Russian), chess problems, interviews, braille and recorded works, and depositories. Richly informative and meticulously researched. Juliar has earned the gratitude of scholars for compiling the definitive primary bibliography of Nabokoviana.-A.N. Vinh, Yale University
