Summary:Commemoration edition celebrating the reopening of the Museum of Art of São Paulo (MASP) after 6 decades of cultural activities. The book defines 3 important time phases: The first decade of the museum (1947-1957) dedicated to the formation of a rich art collection and the consolidation of museographic proposals, when art critic Pietro Maria Bo Bardi and his wife Lina along business man Assis Chateubriand initiated the acquisition of masterpieces by Raphael, Rembrandt, Velazquez, Reinor, Paul Cezanne, and Picasso amongst others. A second period (1957-1994) documents the construction and the inauguration in 1957 of the new museum constructed by architect Lina Bo Bardi and the exhibitions and the cultural activities of the next 5 decades. A final era that started in 1996 describes the new physical and conceptual conception for the exhibition of the collections, in a revitalized design that allows the public to appreciate together art pieces from different origins and time periods.
