Once again this series in clinical and community psychology comes through with another outstanding collection that expands the area of women's psychology. The majority of contributors are female. The book tackles five standard areas of interest and concern: developmental issues in the adjustment of women; career, marriage, and family stress; violence toward women; women's health; and bereavement and old age. With stress and social support as the unifying themes of the essays, issues such as rape, chidbearing, breast cancer, and adolescent friendship are examined. The greatest strength of the volume is that all the studies receive both theoretical and empirical attention. Although some studies use case material, most apply more generalizable and more relevant research methods to the topics at hand. The references are up to date and complete. These studies complement Social and Psychological Problems of Women, ed. by A.U. Rickle, et al (CH, Nov '84). Recommended for upper-level undergraduates and graduate students.-R.
