This volume presents multiple perspectives on the concept of cultural competence in the health sciences in the US. It serves as a resource for health care providers, health educators, public health professionals, and students in those disciplines. Contributors provide background in the preparation of an effective workforce and models for care delivery. Multiple authors outline and reinforce the need for cultural competence, reviewing demographics and actual disparities. They identify specific content areas and provide frameworks for the delivery of culturally competent health education. This work is distinctive in the multiple perspectives presented and in its wide intended audience. It does a very complete job of identifying populations whose health is affected by lack of cultural competence on the part of health care providers. Summing Up: Highly recommended. All levels. M. L.
