The art of prehispanic northern South America has long been overshadowed by that of Mexico and Peru. However, recent studies reveal significant art traditions. Labbe's research on Colombian ceramics has resulted in this volume and an exhibition (sponsored by the Americas Foundation). Richly illustrated, the book is organized into nine chapters on specific cultural regions. The clearly written text explains the milieu of the art and provides information on use and iconography. This new work from the author of Man and Cosmos is highly recommended as a definitive source on a little-known subject for any library interested in art. Eugene C.
