This impressive work discusses the new disk technologies, including interactive videodiscs, compact discs (audio) and CD-ROM, and optical digital disks. The book's main purpose is to examine the ``potential impact'' of this new ``unproven'' technology. Though decidedly technical at points, the text never becomes difficult to follow, presenting many down-to-earth facts and figures, pertinent comparisons, and good examples of library and information applications (including actual site references).
