Written by the executive director of the Center for the Study of the Korean War, Graceland University, this volume details all known military operations carried out under United Nations command as part of the Korean War, from June 1950 through 22 July 1954. A total of 281 operations are included. Brief History of the Korean War is followed by a chronology from prewar times(December 1943) until Operation Glory (July 22, 1954). A-Z entries are divided into five sections: Primarily Ground Operations ; Primarily Air Operations ; Primarily Naval Operations ; Primarily Specialized, Experimental, Training, Feint, and Administrative Operations ; and Covert and Clandestine Operations. Entries provide dates and a summary that includes the units involved, reason for the operation, locations, outcome, and more. Four appendixes list United Nations Command Participants, United States Ground Troops in Korea, Communist Forces Involved, and Korean War Campaigns, which is organized by military branch. The book also contains a bibliography of primary, electronic, and secondary resources. Edwards' detailed account would be a worthwhile reference for academic libraries in which military history is an offered part of the curriculum as well as any library where there is a high interest in the Korean War. However, there are some shortcomings, such as instances in which the index does not coincide with the actual pages. For example, Operation Marley I in the index lists page 133, but on page 133, the operation is named Operation Marlex I. Such discrepancies can confuse the researcher and result in misinformation.--Harless, Carol Sue Copyright 2010 Booklist
