Description
Summary:Wilson Library Bulletin noted that university economics collections will be incomplete without Who's Who in Economics, And History of Political Economy observed that Blaug and Sturges have produced a volume of real usefulness.... exceedingly helpful in our day-to-day work. This new edition includes 337 more entries, bringing the total to over 1,400 thumbnail sketches of economists who have contributed to the literature over the past three centuries. Each entry has been expanded to provide more details about each economist. The 1,000 living economists were selected on the basis of the frequency with which their works are cited in the Social Sciences Citation Index, Choices among the deceased economists were guided by the study of names recorded in the indexes of major works on the history of economic thought. Entries typically include full name, date, and place of birth, current position, recent previous positions, degrees, professional memberships and awards, major fields of interest, a 300-word statement of principal contributions, and chief publications. The authors of the entries are the economists themselves. The entries on deceased economists have been prepared by the editor. Mark Blaug is Professor of the Economics of Education, University of London Institute of Education and University of Buckingham.
