With this volume, Piekalkiewicz concludes a trilogy of illustrated popular summaries of World War II, the previous two having covered air and armored warfare. This one offers a chronology of the war at sea, from the maneuvers leading up to the German invasion of Poland to the final entry of the U.S. fleet into Tokyo Bay. While the text and the illustrations often concentrate too much on little-known episodes of the campaigns in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Baltic, the book's distinctly British-oriented slant nevertheless redresses a comparable imbalance found in many American works on the naval side of World War II. A complementary study for active World War II collections. Index. RG. 940.54'5 World War, 1939-1945 Naval operations Chronology [CIP] 86-3092
