This book is far more than a simple annotated bibliography. Watkins has written excellent chapter introductions providing the basics for such essentials as theory, theorists, and attachment versus bonding. Also included are salient topics such as teenage parenting, adoptive families, and limiting circumstances that affect either parent or child. Watkins writes about these issues with sensitivity and thoroughness. The imposition of an age limitation for the literature of infancy and early childhood is understandable. Only resources in English are cited. Subject and author indexes are included. A most useful book for students in sociology, education, and psychology. Highly recommended for upper-division undergraduates and graduates.-A. Wyman, SUNY College at Oswego
