Summary:	Summary: Willy Kessels (1898-1974) wordt beschouwd als de belangrijkste vertegenwoordiger in ons land van een nieuwe, 'modernistische' fotografie die vanaf het einde van de jaren 1920 op de voorgrond trad. Zijn oeuvre is bijzonder illustratief voor de praktijk van de beroepsfotograaf in de jaren 1930. Hij was actief op vele uiteenlopende terreinen: reportage en publiciteit, mode en portret, architectuur en industrie, naaktstudies, collages en abstracte experimenten. Recente tentoonstellingen gewijd aan het oeuvre van Kessels werden telkens overschaduwd door een problematische omgang met zijn oorlogsverleden. De huidige tentoonstelling zal dit hoofdstuk niet uit de weg gaan, maar wil toch vooral de artistieke kwaliteiten van Kessels in beeld brengen.
