拉卜楞寺位于甘肃省甘南藏族自治州夏河县, 是藏传佛教格鲁派六大宗主寺之一, 被誉为"世界藏学府", 自1709年创建至今, 经历代寺主嘉木样活佛和广大僧俗开发, 拉卜楞寺已成为包括显, 密二宗的闻思, 续部下, 续部上, 医学, 时轮及喜金刚6大学院, 108个属寺和8大教区的大型寺院, 是西藏以外藏传佛教格鲁派的又一中心和西北地区的最高佛教学府; 拉卜楞寺在藏蒙地区近代藏传佛教文化史上占据重要地位, 清代藏族历史称为"第二西藏", 民国时期, 内地汉族学者称它是"东方梵蒂冈", 社会学家费孝通先生誉之为"藏族现代化的跳板". 本书对改革开放以来拉卜楞佛教文化发展进行了深入研究.
