Afro-Pentecostalism had its genesis in the Regent University School of Divinity's 2007-2008 Colloquium on African American Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements in the USA. For this important contribution, the editors have brought together scholars of African American Pentecostalism to explore the rich history and current status of the black Pentecostal-Charismatic church, discuss its impact on the black community and the broader Pentecostal movement, and chart its future trajectories. Since "current scholarship on black Pentecostalism lags behind," this book is a welcome addition to the study of black Pentecostalism and Charismatic Christianity in history and culture. Chapters cover such topics as origins, gender and culture, prophetic ethics, pneumatology, and Afro-Pentecostalism in global context. The essays are evenly written throughout, well researched, illuminating, and highly informative. Each chapter contains liberal endnotes that provide readers with useful primary and secondary sources. This volume should be especially useful in bible colleges, seminaries, and institutions with an African American studies program. Summing Up: Recommended.
