This specialized book, part of the "Princeton Series in Applied Mathematics," is geared to researchers in advanced linear algebra. The goal of Fallat (Univ. of Regina, Canada) and Johnson (College of William and Mary) is to compile and update the current understanding of a certain class of matrices. Though totally nonnegative matrices have applications, the book focuses on the theory of analysis of these matrices rather than on their application to other fields of study. The ten-chapter volume is self-contained and has a significant bibliography of related monographs and journal articles and a glossary of symbols. Given the unique focus of the book, libraries may wish to add it to their collections only if requested by a patron. Summing Up: Recommended. Graduate students, researchers/faculty, and professionals. D. Z. Spicer University System of Maryland
