With more than 2,000 entries, this volume treats the technical vocabulary of the investment and securities industry in the US. Definitions range from a sentence or two to a few short paragraphs, and are written in succinct but easily understood English. Simple charts and graphs illustrate most entries that have either a computational or visual reference, such as ``break-away gap,'' ``covered option,'' and ``present value.'' Narrow in scope, this volume should be added only to collections that already have standard business and economics dictionaries, but it will be the source of preference for helping students make sense of investment stories in newspapers (``junk bonds''), and articles in magazines such as Fortune and Forbes, as well as more technical publications. Appendixes include a summary of abbreviations current in the industry, a bond classification list, and a guide on how to read prospectuses and circulars. Highly recommended for undergraduate, graduate, and general collections.-P.W. Wood, Boston University

More than 2000 alphabetically arranged terms used in the investment and financial planning fields are briefly defined in this book. Included are technical words and phrases, industry agencies and associations, regulatory bodies, laws and regulations. Entries contain cross references to related terms as well as illustrative charts and diagrams. A listing of abbreviations and acronyms follows the glossary. Also appended are a summary of the major sections of prospectuses and circulars and a list of different types of bonds. While it does not supersede other specialized dictionaries dealing with the securities industry, this work supplements them very well. Definitely recommended. Leonard Grundt, Nassau Community Coll.
