Variously known as the king of collaborators and the king of the self-help writers, Baker combines good ideas and good advice with seemingly endless repetitions of his adventures with Doctors Stillman and Tarnower. Baker's more interesting points might better have become magazine articlesbetter for the reader, that isand the fiction writers among Baker's audience will not be charmed by his reference to their pursuit as an ego trip (Baker's italics). The May issue of Writer's Digest magazine has a profile of Baker, where his rules for writing nonfiction that sells are presented more succinctly, but the book is being heavily advertised, so libraries will probably have requests.Fran Lewis, Albany P.L., N.Y.
