Summary:There are numerous publications about Renaissance art in Florence, but books written about this subject during this era are exceptionally rare. Francesco Albertini's "Memorial of many statues and paintings in the famous city of Florence" of 1510 should therefore be treasured. This is the first guidebook of the city and is published only a few years after the inauguration of Michelangelo's David at Piazza della Signoria and Leonardo da Vinci's work on the Battle of Anghiari in Palazzo Vecchio. Albertini's Memorial is also one of the earliest and therefore most interesting sources about sculpture and painting in the city. The book guides the reader through the magnificent Florentine churches, convents and palazzi, which at the time were adorned with masterpieces by Ghiberti, Donatello, Masaccio, Ghirlandaio and many more great artists.
