Communication experts/educators Judith Pauley and Joseph Pauley (both, Process Communications) focus on the very important and much talked about issue of patient safety. They assert that communication plays an important part in assuring good patient outcomes. Specifically, poor and/or ineffective communication styles can cause emotional responses that lead to patient care errors. This work identifies six personality types and details how individuals with each personality type communicate, miscommunicate, and respond to each other. The book contains specific strategies for people with each personality style to improve their communication with patents and other health care professionals. The last chapter outlines the concepts of a tool that will improve communication as it relates to establishing a culture of patient safety. There are numerous examples/stories, figures, and tables throughout the text. In general, this work adds a different perspective to the patient safety discussion and offers strategies to assure positive/good patient outcomes. Summing Up: Recommended.
