In this edited volume, various international scholars focus on the state of young men throughout the world at a time when concepts of masculinity are in flux. The contributors to the first section of the book focus on the experiences of young men as they attempt to fit themselves into obligatory social arrangements that are constantly evolving and changing. In the second section, the authors examine how young men struggle to achieve adult male status when facing demanding, if not oppressive, criteria and expectations. Contributors to the third and final section focus on the social, political, and legal implications for male youth who are formally or informally labeled "troublemakers." Because of this comparative cross-cultural approach, readers will attain a greater understanding of the structural and cultural challenges young men face as they negotiate the transition to male adulthood.
