This book provides an overview of issues related to the management response of hospitals to a variety of perplexing issues related to the challenges of providing care to persons with AIDS. The editor has compiled 16 chapters in which authors address specific topics of interest not to only hospital administrators but also to physicians, nurses, social workers, and public relations professionals. General information is provided on the AIDS retrovirus and on clinical manifestations and the epidemiology of AIDS. The economics of AIDS is considered in chapters related to the cost of AIDS care, i.e., developing inpatient, outpatient, and home health-care services. Issues relevant to nursing care, infection control, and in-service education programs are also discussed, as is the substantial role of the social worker. One chapter is devoted to managing psychosocial programs. Legal issues are treated from the perspective of both the patient and the hospital. The discussion of ethical implications of AIDS provides information on ethical decision making. A useful contribution to the literature that is recommended for collections in the health sciences and related disciplines.-A. Woodtli, University of Arizona
