With funding cuts and the implications of Reaganomics for tax-supported institutions, the special consideration given libraries for serving the ``public good'' has become threatened. The 16 papers in this collection, originally presented at the ALA Annual Conference in 1985, explore the public-good concept and offer advice on forming coalitions that will continue to foster public support for libraries and other services affecting the general welfare. The contributors, including Arthur Curley, Major Owens, and John Berry, are well-established and respected members of the library profession, and their ideas as presented here constitute a useful primer for those working to generate support for funding applicable to all library situations.
