A collection of original articles published in cooperation with the Council for Marxist Anthropology. The contributors address current trends and future directions in Marxist anthropology in the US. Editors Hakken and Lessinger include in their useful introduction a history of the development of Marxism in anthropology. Contributors include E.E. Ruyle, P.L. Kohl, H.A. Baer, B. Schroder, D.J. Keren. F. Babb, F.V. Harrison, N.G. Schiller. The ten articles are both theoretical and related to specific societies and topics. Beyond the New Economic Anthropology, ed. by John Clammer (see above), has a broader theoretical and intellectual approach, in part because of the international character of its contributors. However, the two volumes can be productively used together. Appropriate for upper-division undergraduates and graduate students.-L. Beck, Washington University
