Seminoff and Wallace have edited and contributed to a superb summary of well-informed, multiple-authored, cutting-edge research and conservation information on sea turtles of the eastern Pacific Ocean. Noted turtle scholar Peter C. H. Pritchard introduces the narrative with an exceptionally knowledgeable analysis of sea turtle historical information. The editors' introduction and 13 information-packed chapters, each authored by one or more world chelonian specialists, follow. The chapters are organized into three parts. Part 1 includes four chapters dealing with aspects of turtle natural history and turtle-human interrelationships. The three chapters in part 2 outline international management and policies. Part 3 completes the narrative with six chapters, each dealing with field-based conservation successes. Each chapter closes with a list of references. Graphs, maps, figures, tables, and monochrome photos illustrate many of the chapter discussions. Thirty-two excellent color photographs and five color plates with multiple maps are bound into part 2. An appendix of citations for text-referenced map data follows part 3. Background information on the editors and 30 contributors completes the book. This is destined to be a major source book for future sea turtle conservation and management; it will interest anyone desiring accurate, current information on sea turtles. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Upper-division undergraduates through professionals; general readers. E. D. Keiser emeritus, University of Mississippi
