Summary: | In Women in Cuba: The Making of a Revolution Within the Revolution, Vilma Espín, Asela de los Santos, and Yolanda Ferrer recount how, in 1958, workers and peasants in the area of the Sierra Maestra mountains in eastern Cuba controlled by the Rebel Army's Second Front column established new social relations and began to carry through the revolution's aims. They describe the efforts of the new revolutionary government in these turbulent times to incorporate women into every aspect of Cuban life. The Cuban Women's Federation (FMC), founded in 1960 by Espín, de los Santos, and others was a central part of this effort. |
