Summary: | English Description:Heinrich Vogeler is one of the most important exponents of German Art Nouveau. The largest solo exhibition to date casts light on the life and many-layered uvre of the co-founder of the Worpswede artist colony, from the early days with romantic Jugendstil works right up to his days in the Soviet Union. A man of fascinating facets, Heinrich Vogeler (1872-1942) was a painter, graphic artist, designer, architect, writer and social revolutionary. The present publication pays tribute to the versatile artist in a comprehensive manner. In the process, an extraordinary human being and artist comes to light in the comparison of his artistic uvre with his dreams, ideals and political visions. Using numerous illustrations and in some cases unpublished source material, Vogeler's unusual life-story and work are richly documented. His creative work was always the expression of his personal convictions and ideals; in every genre, he confronted the central social-policy issues of his age. No matter how different the stylistic means appear as a whole, they still reflect Vogeler's search for the earthly paradise in all the phases of his eventful life. Not only the works from the Jugendstil period at the turn of the century, but also the late work of the 1920s and 30s point to his desire to integrate art into all spheres of everyday life and to use it as the form of expression for his (political) view of the world German description: Heinrich Vogeler zählt zu den bedeutendsten Kuenstlern des deutschen Jugenstils. |
