Jiji (City Univ. of New York) offers an adequate book for a one-semester graduate course. The author is commended for his concise and clear approach, even though almost all of the materials presented in the book are classic. He does an excellent job of writing the chapters, which can serve as valuable self-study material. Examples are solved with utmost clarity. Each example consists of the following elements: observations, problem definition, solution plan, plan execution, and comments. The emphasis is on exact and approximate solutions of internal and external laminar flows. Jiji strikes a good balance between differential equations and integral solutions approach. However, he does not cover turbulent flows, which is an important topic in convective heat transfer, and may be viewed as a weakness of the book. There are nine chapters, with an adequate number of exercises, and the book culminates with a chapter on convection in micro-channels. The accompanying CD-ROM contains an instructional PDF file and PowerPoint documents; these resources definitely facilitate the written materials for presentation to students. ^BSumming Up: Recommended.
