With an eye toward libraries, this book provides a basis for understanding the often complicated process of setting up a local area network (LAN). Both the human and technical issues in choosing and installing a LAN are discussed-system design, staff training and development, vendor requirements, etc.-as are such LAN benefits as equipment sharing and greater communication between workstation users. Though technical in many spots, the text generally presents most concepts clearly. Recommended readings, bibliography, glossary; index.
