Walker (director of the Child Trauma Institute and a professor of clinical psychology, Regent Univ.) and Hathaway (psychology and counseling, Regent Univ.) have assembled a valuable collection of work by scholars and practitioners in the fields of psychotherapy, psychology, theology, counseling, and social work. Although geared to psychotherapists, the book will be useful to anyone working with children, adolescents, and families in the counseling environment. Various types of interventions are addressed, using concepts such as prayer, forgiveness, sacred texts, and God images. These spiritual interventions can be incorporated into numerous types of therapy and modified to meet a client's needs, whether he or she is part of a traditional religion or embodies a more general spiritual consciousness. Incorporating various world religions, the volume offers case studies and discusses theory and research findings. Practical advice is given in terms of the APA Ethics Code and its complexities. This is a significant contribution to this little-researched but burgeoning field and a required resource for those interested in psychology of religion and spirituality, counseling, and psychotherapy. Includes chapter-end references. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Upper-division undergraduates through faculty and professionals. J. Bailey Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute
