Summary: | For more than six decades, renowned artist Takao Tanabe has offered his own unique artistic expressions of the Canadian landscape. This magnificently illustrated monograph accompanies the first ever sweeping retrospective exhibition of Tanabe¿s works on paper and features drawings and watercolours from 1949 to the present day. Three original essays reveal the artist¿s long and multi-faceted career, notably his travels to Japan in the 1950s to study the art of Sumi painting (Japanese Ink brushwork), his exploration of abstraction in the 1960s, and his black works of the 1970s and 1980s. Today Tanabe continues to explore the Canadian landscape through pen and ink, graphite, acrylic and watercolour with a sense of purpose and zeal. |
