The book, which deals with the physics of quasi-one-dimensional conductors, assumes a good foundation in solid-state physics. Following a brief introductory chapter describing what constitutes one-dimensional conductors, the remainder of the volume is divided into two parts. The first part presents basic properties from a theoretical point of view in a single chapter. The second part, which is covered in the succeeding five chapters, provides characteristic behaviors of such known materials from an experimental point of view. The authors state that the book is an updated and revised version of an earlier published (1983) Japanese edition that includes new topics such as high temperature organic superconductivity. The book is well illustrated and adequately referenced; however, no problems are given. Level: graduate. -O. Eknoyan, Texas A & M University
