An academic examination of government policies that have led to wastage of forest resources at an international level, this volume includes an identification and assessment of the economic and political factors that have led to exploitation of forest resources in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, China, the Amazon, West Africa, and the US. Case studies are used to support insightful introductory and conclusion chapters. The volume builds to its major conclusion that ". . .wastage of publicly owned national forests has been widespread and long-standing. To an extent heretofore unappreciated these outcomes have been the avoidable consequences of government policies." The book is well referenced with ample facts, figures, and charts to support its principal arguments. A detailed index is included. Although intended for the college-educated policy analyst, the work would appeal to any reader interested in the political and economic factors underlying forest exploitation. F. E.
