Review by Booklist Review

This revised edition of the 1976 original takes all of its illustrations from the collection of New York's Museum of Modern Art, where Castleman is director of the department of prints and illustrated books. The brief but impressive survey covers most of the major artists of the modern movement, and a new chapter presents recent developments in the field. Covering both aesthetic and technical issues and addressing itself to both collectors and museumgoers, this handbook possesses a value far beyond its compact format. Good illustrations, mostly in black and white but with a sampling in color. Notes, glossary, and bibliography; index. -- John Brosnahan
