Description
Summary:Used extensively by later classicising architects, the waterspout shaped as a lion's head was used throughout the Greek world. This study discusses some of the earliest gargoyles from Magna Graecia and beyond and compares them with examples from the Greek motherland, showing how a basic type developed as settlers came into contact with the artistic traditions of their new neighbours. Text in German.
