Smith and Hattery (both, Wake Forest Univ.) contribute an anthology of eight interdisciplinary chapters on different groups from leading scholars of interracial relationships. Chapters discuss interracial marriage, intimacy, children of "war babies" originating among the Chinese, mixed-race children's psychological well-being, interracial partner violence, comparative queer and heterosexual interracial relationships, and the intersection of interfaith and interracial relationships. George Yancey with Emily J. Hubbard and Amy Smith report this interesting finding: "Contrary to what one might expect, increased church attendance fails to ameliorate the propensity of White Christians to only date inside of their race" (p. 132). Despite how things remain the same, the editors conclude, "Of course, the issues raised in this book, and by Mr. Obama himself, point to the ever-changing definitions of race."
