Essay by Eugen Blume.
In German and English.
Summary:Over thirty years Bernd Kerkin has created an oeuvre that is multi-faceted but never haphazard. His art practice includes a highly diverse visual language and techniques; his themes and inspiration are expansive - travel impressions, diverse cultures, even works by other artists. In his works - figurative or abstract, printmaking, painting, ceramics - he examines the object in hand at great depth, translating this into his own, unique, visual language. "Kerkin appears to be searching for archetypes, for primeval symbols and figures that revolve around the mystery of human existence itself.
