The current edition emphasizes the transition from basic immunology to "molecular" immunology. Each chapter has three components. The introductory pages summarize relevant historical events, the center describes current knowledge, and the conclusion anticipates what the future may hold. The chapters are grouped into five parts according to patterns of disease: basic immunology; nonatopic immunological disorders; the atopic diseases; allergic reaction patterns of the skin; and diseases with immunological features.
