With the opening of more archives, the Korean War (1950-1953) is attracting new scholarly interest, but many questions remain unanswered. This collection addresses some of those questions. The volume is composed of 12 conference papers delivered at a conference in Newcastle, September 1985. Each paper is footnoted and hence the volume provides bibliographical assistance to those interested in the subject. The following papers give some idea of the range of the collection: "The China Factor in the Korean War" by Sir Anthony Farrar-Hockley, "Who Initiated the Korean War" by Gye-Dong Kim, and "Japan's Involvement in the Korean War" by Reinhard Drifte. Other contributors include Peter Lowe, Gregory Henderson, and David Rees. James Cotton provides an all-too-brief introduction. Not a volume for the general reader, who should turn first to David Rees's Korea: The Limited War (CH, Jul '64). -J. C. Perry, Tufts University
