Summary: | With sixteen years of production, of which ten have been dedicated to use of alternative media - performance, photography, sculpture, video and, above all, urban interventionism, Srur has authored a number of works that offers to the ordinary citizen the possibility of launching a new look at the landscape of the surrounding public urban space. From the documentation of his work and his own testimonials, "This publication records the artistic performance of Srur, highlighting how the space and the place where one lives is an open space, infinitesimal and waiting to be transformed. The manual and the city are for the use of anyone." (Our translation) --Page [7]. Some of the various urban interventions made by the artist include "PETs" created in 2008, which consisted in the installation of 20 giant plastic pet bottles on the banks of the Tiet River; "Sobrevivncia" (Survival), created the same year, an intervention which had sixteen monuments in Sao Paulo dressed with life jackets, that in the words of Srur "reactivated visually elements of history, architecture and social life of the city", and "A arte salva", (Art saves) created in 2011, in which 360 buoys were thrown in the mirror fountain of the National Congress in Brasilia. Between September and October 2012, Srur challanged urban mobility in the city through the installation, 30 meters high, of a coach and four horses sculpted in real scale in a cable-stayed bridge over the Marginal Pinheiros highway. |
